Web/Graphic Designer

Claremont, Cape Town, South Africa Full-time

PayFast has been growing at a very impressive and accelerating rate over the past few years. We’re constantly looking for capable and motivated individuals to help us grow South Africa’s best online payment gateway.

About The Position

We’re looking for a talented Web/Graphic Designer to make their mark and enhance our marketing material.

You’ll have the opportunity to refine the branding and visual strategy by building and maintaining the in-house style guide and creating new marketing and sales materials to be used across multiple communication channels.

This will include optimizing the digital design experience across online platforms such as our website, promotional newsletters, system notifications as well as social and paid media. Ideally you’ll also have some experience in designing for print, such as flyers, brochures, pull up banners and other marketing collateral.

You will form part of the marketing department reporting directly to the Marketing Manager.

There’s potential overlap with UX/UI, front end development and business development, so an interest or experience in any of those fields would be beneficial.

About the Company

PayFast was started in 2007 and has grown into one of South Africa’s leading online payment gateways. We are trusted by thousands of online sellers to process payments for them in a variety of ways, including credit cards, Instant EFT, Mobicred, MaterPass and Bitcoin (and yes, you should at least know what all these methods are).

We're a lean team in a fast growing company and excellent growth opportunities exist for the right candidates.

About you

You’re a fun, sharp and self-motivated person. You have an eye for clean design and are passionate about improving user experience.

You’re not only a Photoshop whizz but also have an in-depth understanding of the latest web design trends and technologies. You have some appropriate work experience and preferably a relevant qualification in digital or graphic design. Getting top marks for your projects surely is impressive, but we’re far more interested in your personality; who you are and where you’re heading.

We’re looking for someone who is professional and driven, with an ability to think ahead and work under tight deadlines in a fast-changing environment. Someone who thrives on driving new design projects and system improvements, has outstanding visual communication skills, and is passionate about solving problems creatively and effectively. You’re a self-starter and able to work independently.

Some requirements of the position are:

  • Excellent design skills with a strong portfolio
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and other visual design tools
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS advantageous
  • Experience with Wordpress advantageous
  • Competency in Repro and preparation for print media advantageous

None of the skills are required, but it will certainly help if you have some knowledge of or experience in e-commerce (as a buyer or as a seller), payment systems, customer retention strategies, CRM systems, bulk email software, social media, Google Apps, Slack.

  • Competitive salary
  • Company laptop
  • Ability to do some work remotely
  • Free continuing education (Lynda, Treehouse, Udemy, coding classes etc.)

As soon as humanly possible (but we are willing to wait for the perfect candidate).

Fill out the application form below. The questions are designed to find out about you and what you want from your career. So be honest, articulate and specific. We are a rapidly growing company and although we are looking for certain roles we are mostly looking for the right people with the right attitude who would best fit the team culture.

We are very fortunate to receive a lot of applications, so do yourself (and us) a favour and do some research on PayFast; what we do, what we could do and how you think you can contribute. Go ahead and stalk us on our website, blog, social channels and everywhere else. Check your grammar and spelling (including the company's name). Applications containing LOLspeak will be promptly incinerated.

We’ll also ask for your CV (in PDF format, DO NOT send Word documents....it's not 2006 anymore), a cover letter motivation and your portfolio**. Please ensure you have those tailored and ready before you start. Generic "I am very interested in your company" applications will go to the bottom of the pile. Please keep your CV short and relevant, 1-3 pages at most.

**Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.

Good luck!
