Customer Service Representative

PayFast has been growing at a very impressive (and accelerating) rate over the past few years. We’re constantly looking for capable and motivated individuals to help us grow South Africa’s best online payment processing service. 

About the position

The position is primarily a customer services one, but with additional responsibilities relating to PayFast operations, such as account verifications, etc. The role responsibilities are as follows:

Primary Responsibilities

Support / Sales

  • Resolve customer support & sales queries via email (using company helpdesk software) and phone (logging to helpdesk as necessary).
  • Maintenance of support materials with Support Team

Account Management

  • Verifying validity of supplied documentation for new & existing account holders

Secondary Responsibilities


  • Testing and quality control of new or existing functionality on website


  • General client relations and administrative tasks

PayFast was started in 2007 and has grown into one of South Africa’s leading online payment gateways. We are trusted by thousands of online sellers to process payments for them in a variety of ways, including credit cards, Instant EFT and Bitcoin.

Our office is in Claremont, Cape Town (so if you live in town, expect a 25-35 minute drive, against traffic).

About you

You're a friendly, supportive and helpful person who doesn't mind picking up the phone to resolve an issue. You have some relevant experience (customer service), you get satisfaction out of helping other people (even when their attitude doesn't match yours), and you are comfortable working in an online environment (emails, live chat and phone calls). 

We're impressed by skills and experience (particularly online gaming, fraud review, eCommerce and payments processing), but we're more interested in you having the right attitude & personality. We do have, however, a few minimum requirements.

Minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 (tertiary qualification in customer service a plus)
  • Highly computer literate especially with regards to MS Office, email, chat and general Internet matters
  • Knowledge of transacting online a plus (eg. eCommerce, internet banking etc.)
  • High level of written and spoken English
  • Afrikaans a plus
  • Helpful, willing and friendly attitude
  • Personable with good telephone manner
  • High level of professionalism and work ethic
  • A passion for customer service

Employees are eligible for a bonus after the financial year end, based on a combination of the employee's performance and the company's performance.
