Account Manager

Johannesburg OR Cape Town, South Africa Full-time Allows remote

PayFast has been growing at a very impressive and accelerating rate over the past few years. We’re constantly looking for capable and motivated individuals to help us grow South Africa’s best online payment gateway.

About The Position

We’re looking for an Account Manager to join our ranks.

This will include involvement in a varienty of functions centrally focused around client relationships, sales, event representation and facilitating internal projects regarding client requirements.

You will form part of the greater business development, marketing and growth department reporting directly to the Business Development Manager.

You’ll get to wear a lot of different hats on the job. There’s potential overlap with support, operations and development, so an interest or experience in any of those fields would be beneficial.

About the Company

PayFast was started in 2007 and has grown into one of South Africa’s leading online payment gateways. We are trusted by thousands of online sellers to process payments for them in a variety of ways, including credit cards, Instant EFT, Mobicred, MaterPass and Bitcoin (and yes, you should at least know what all these methods are).

We're a lean team in a fast growing company and excellent growth opportunities exist for the right candidates.

About you

You’re a fun, sharp and self-motivated person. You have a passion for building strong and lasting relationships and can keep tabs on multiple moving parts in your job. You have some appropriate work experience and ideally a diploma or a degree in a relevant area (business, marketing, communication). Getting top marks for your tests surely is impressive, but we’re far more interested in your personality; who you are and where you’re heading.

We’re looking for someone who is professional and driven, with an ability to think ahead and work under tight deadlines in a fast-changing environment. Someone who has outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, thrives on building relationships and is happy to meet up for a coffee or a cocktail before, after or during office hours. You have your own transportation and you’re okay with flying to Johannesburg/Cape Town to meet with clients or attend events if needed. Presentation opportunities will also be available if you are so inclined.

None of the skills are required, but it will certainly help if you have some knowledge of or experience in e-commerce (as a buyer or as a seller), payment systems, PR, negotiation, customer retention strategies, CRM systems, copywriting, spreadsheets, Google Apps, Slack.

Perks

  • Competitive salary
  • Company laptop
  • Ability to do some work remotely
  • Free continuing education (Lynda, Treehouse, Udemy, coding classes etc.)
  • Generous travel allowance on hotels, meals and flights (for work travel, not your December break)

Availability

As soon as humanly possible (but we are willing to wait for the perfect candidate).

Apply

Fill out the application form below. The questions are designed to find out about you and what you want from your career. So be honest, articulate and specific. We are a rapidly growing company and although we are looking for certain roles we are mostly looking for the right people with the right attitude who would best fit the team culture.

We are very fortunate to receive a lot of applications, so do yourself (and us) a favour and do some research on PayFast; what we do, what we could do and how you think you can contribute. Go ahead and stalk us on our website, blog, social channels and everywhere else. Check your grammar and spelling (including the company's name). Applications containing LOLspeak will be promptly incinerated.

We’ll also ask for your C.V. (in PDF format, DO NOT send Word documents....it's not 2006 anymore) and a cover letter motivation. Please ensure you have those tailored and ready before you start. Generic "I am very interested in your company" applications will go to the bottom of the pile. Please keep your CV short and relevant, 1-3 pages at most.

Good luck!
